SIA is such a continuous party, it's hard to say how many times we'll report from Las Vegas. But here goes...

Ironically I met Tory, who designs the "Narrow Ass Snowboard" (skis) for Lib Tech over the weekend in Montana. Here's Liberty Skis taking it the other direction with the BFF. At first glance I thought they were carve (snow) boards.

5pm roles around at SIA and people start doing crazy things. Shane McConkey is never one to shy away from a little publicity. Here he revs up the K2 Chopper.

McConkey has an incredible "07" role in the latest Matchstick ski movie, Seven Sunny Days. Watch the a short preview of the trailer below or download our media player to watch the whole trailer full screen, DVD quality.

The E408 Turbine booth had the last keg of beer within a 10 booth radius, so that's where we made our last (keg) stand on the trade show floor. Thanks girls!

The official SIA 08 Opening Night Party was at the House of Blues right there in the Mandalay Bay Casino adjacent to the Convention Center. Started off slow but by the end the DJ was spinning some classics and the dance floor was packed. Sorry no pics, apparently "TV" doesn't count as "media."

From here we ditched our bags and cameras at the hotel and headed out on the town. The girls from E408 Turbine invited us to the Betty Rides party at Blush in the Wynn Casino. This place puts every other club in Vegas to shame, at least the ones I've been in. We were sorely underdressed but managed to get in and enjoy the scenery. And a good night was had by all.

Schralping the Wasatch

X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival and the Outdoor Retailer Winter trade show overlapped this year. Separated by a mere two city blocks, it made for a couple hectic days. But it was also a great opportunity to get three of our sponsored filmmakers together. Voleurz was in town for X-Dance, where they wound up winning the Short Film Festival with Fishbowl. Meanwhile, both KGB Productions and Thrillhead Creations got into town Wednesday night for OR.

We attended the X-Dance Filmmaker Institute Forum, then adjourned to the Brewery for our own "forum" over great food and even better beer. After getting our fill we high-tailed it to the X-Dance Awards Party, arriving just in time for Jan from Voleurz to accept his award.

The next day we were all at OR meeting with our respective sponsors and advertisers. Jake from Numa Tactical shows off his display of sunglasses and shows us how every day ends at the show.

But enough about eating, drinking, and partying. A full day working the floor of OR wasn't about to keep Ellis Smith from Thrillhead and myself from getting after some epic powder in Utah's Wasatch Range. We met up with four locals and rallied up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Ascending the ridge across from Alta to the sound of avy control bombs going off, we were rewarded with some of the best pow turns of our lives in Silver Fork.

Ellis is a sideways shredder, attacking both uphill and downhill on his preferred weapon of choice, the venerable splitboard. Check out Thrillhead's films Schralptown and Return to Schralptown to see more of these Coloradians.

X-Dance - Final Day & Awards Party

X-Dance Day 4 - The Go Big Party

The Go Big Project is a magazine style action sports show hosted by top action sports athletes. A wide world of sports for Generation X, the Project will span the globe reporting on the wild world of action sports. The Go Big Project will focus on professional athletes, competition, music and culture.

The Go Big Project was at X-Dance for all the films and parties. They interviewed the athletes, kicked it with the Bra Boys and put back a few with the X-Dance crew.

On Day 4 of X-Dance, The Go Big Project went huge. They rocked into town during the middle of Sundance and X-Dance, found a venue, found some talent, and threw a party for the ages. All on the heels of three straight nights of the Bra Boys, Tara Dakides, and Tony Hawk parties. Look for more big things from these guys and gals out of Tahoe!

Outdoor Retailer Backcountry Base Camp

Taking a break from the action at X-Dance, nossaTV headed up to Snowbasin to catch up with some of the local athletes and film crews. An epic day of powder skiing followed. While the retailers stayed close to the demos at the bottom of the mountain, we got after it. Josh Madsen from Lipstick Films was there doing his best to represent Rossignol. The trailer for Since We Last Spoke is below, or you can check it out on nossaTV. I also bumped into Zack Houston, who told me they are working on a new film for Tough Guy Productions after a one year drought.

X-Dance Day 3 - 199 Lives

Picking up where Bra Boys and Against the Grain left off, 199 Lives is a documentary that explores the life of action sports phenomenon Travis Pastrana. At the age of 22, Travis has become a living legend as a motocross racer, FMX rider, action sports hero, film maker, and rally car driver.

Some other top notch films opened the "12 noon to 10 pm" action.

Why, directed by Taylor Congdon, is a Transworld MX film by The Assignment "juxtaposing the rider's intense talents on their bikes with their own unique personalities off" with plenty of quotes from Greek philosophers.

The sixth and final short film followed. Autumn Dream, by Jenny and Brenton Gregory from the Wavestone Group, is a "mystical immersion into one surfer's dream of private gentle waves."

New Emissions of Light and Sound is a ideal description for the next film. Directed by Joe G and George Manzanilla, this film by Globe Entertainment features the music of world-famous DJ Sasha. "Sit back, relax, and open your mind..."

Lost & Found brought us back to the snow. The annual epic from Teton Gravity Research ends with one of the most intense big mountain snowboard scenes ever, as Jeremy Jones slays Alaskan peak after Alaskan peak in a dance with the devil. You have to see it to understand! Check out the trailer below or on nossaTV.

Source was a movie that I was truly looking forward to. Directed by Rush Sturges, and Produced by Brooks Baldwin and Marlow Long, all of Young Gun Productions, this movie did not disappoint. Traveling all over the world to document the most intense whitewater kayaking and waterfall descents, they even find time to call attention to endangered rivers. We hope to add the YGP's videos to the stable on nossaTV very soon.

The Windsurfing Movie is the much anticipated film from Johnny DeCesare of Poor Boyz Productions. Breaking from his ski movie heritage, DeCesare teams up with Jace Panebianco and Levi Siver to document the resurgence of windsurfing. Featuring an incredible musical score with music from The Rolling Stones, it has been called "the definitive film on the history of the sport."

An absolutely packed house greeted Travis Pastrana for his second film of X-Dance, 199 Lives. The show was sold out earlier in the day, and that meant standing room only, even on the balcony. Godfrey Entertainment delivered with one of the most memorable films in the history action sports. If you missed it, go see it soon, you be glad you did!

X-Dance Day 2 - Against the Grain

Against the Grain is the Tara Dakides documentary. This was the world premiere, and once again an amazing must-see movie to cap off another great day at X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival.

Yours truly missed some of the early movies while out getting some turns in the famous Utah backcountry, then guest coaching with a local youth telemark "tribe." Fortunately I'd already seen Optimistic, but if you haven't you can get a taste of the action on nossaTV or by right here:

Returning to the Off Broadway Theater in downtown Salt Lake, there was no way I was going to miss the latest ski porn from Matchstick, Seven Sunny Days. Watch below or head to nossaTV to download our player and watch the whole trailer full screen.

After that it was Driven, the first of two films in X-Dance about Travis Pastrana, the "world's best Freestyle Motocross Rider" and but really "an average person that just does extraordinary things." Driven focuses on Pastrana's recent foray into the world of Rally.

Find My Way, by Mark Hannah and Remi Drozd - A surf movie about "leaving the ordinary for the unknown path."

Skater Made, by Bart Saric and featuring his son, and asking the simple question: "When is it too early start skateboarding."

Last by certainly not least, Against the Grain - The Tara Dakides Documentary. Directed and produced by Josh Landan, narrated by "Pink," and staring one of snowboarding's most celebrated athletes, Tara Dakides. This movie provides a revealing and deeply personal look at Dakide's most devasting moments (and there are many of them) and her bigger triumphs (just as many if not more). Like Bra Boys the night before, this movie was a truly heart-wrenching story about an action sports star. A must see this winter.

X-Dance Day 1 - Bra Boys Throw Down

nossaTV Action Sports Video is here in Salt Lake City sponsoring the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival. The "Academy Awards of action sports" runs concurrent with Sundance Film Festival. X-Dance outgrew its digs on Main Street of Park City, moving to the Off Broadway Theater in downtown Salt Lake. The Aussie surf documentary Bra Boys capped off the first day of world class films, with special guest appearances by producer Sal Masekela and director Sunny Abberton, and a kickin' after party at The Broadway Bistro.

The first day of X-Dance mixed wake, mountain bike, snowboard, and skateboarding videos. Here's just a few:

Push Process is Justin Stephens, Oakley, and 1242 Productions' latest HD action sports film, showcasing the progression of wakeboarding and wakeskating through a travelogue of the world's best riders.

Sliding Liberia follows four young surfers to Liberia in search of more than perfect waves. Alterna Films shakes Apples & Oranges out of the tree, bringing you a film about the crew of international riders brought together for the same mission: to bring their individual talents to the big screen.

Headlining the evening was Bra Boys. Directed by eldest Bra Boy Sunny Abberton, this film is about the cultural evolution of the inner-Sydney beachside suburb of Maroubra and the social struggle of its youth - the tattooed and much maligned surf community known as the Bra Boys. Narrated by Australia actor Russell Crowe, the film was produced by Berkela Films (Jason Bergh and Sal Masekela) among others, and has recently been picked up by Universal.

Also playing were two of the six videos in the Short Film Festival sponsored and powered by nossaTV.

01.17.08 // Snowboarder extraordinaire Tara Dakides just got into town and Travis Pastrana is here filming with his crew. Members of the Aussie surf tribe called the "Bra Boys" will descend upon Park city on Friday. Their film "Bra Boys" will kick off the festival Saturday night followed by a party with DJ Trouble. The Beating Results

The Beating Film Festival and nossaTV Action Sports Video have announced the winners of this year's festival. With the exception of the viewers choice and overall awards, these awards were created by the judges at the festival to best reflect the "undiscovered talent" of the contestants.

Hand Cut - Las Lenas by Nick Waggoner of Sweetgrass Productions was the runaway winner of the Viewer's Choice Award held on nossaTV, and also took home the judge's Best Inspiration award.

Dear Silverton, Love Aspen from Mike Cuseo easily won the Best Pillow Lines award.

A Film By Matt Mulligan of Shadow Puppet Productions took home the Best Nutter award.

Furthermore, by Jason Ebelheiser and the San Juan Pirates, earned Best Edit.

SASS 2007 by Skylar Holgate of South America Snow Sessions won Best Method.

Black Magic by Drew Lederer of Fatman Productions was the overall runner up.

Finally, There's Always Something, a seemless integration of "big mountain skiing on Red (Mountain) and jibb'n at the terrain park," by George Knowles won both Most Original award and the Overall competition.

A snowboarder, Knowles takes home a pair of K2 Pontoons. While he was overheard musing about a possible switch to the dark side, one has to wonder if a single Pontoon, with a 130mm waist, might work as a snowboard. Knowles also earns a tour of Studio411 in Los Angeles, a career accelerator if there ever was one.

The 2nd annual version of The Beating attracted a standing room only crowd at the Miner Theater in Silverton. It was an appropriate kick-off to the weekend, as the San Juans were in the path of the major winter storm pounding the Western U.S. A couple feet of fresh welcomed powder hounds at Silverton Mountain on Saturday morning, and it kept coming down all day.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature also caused a premature end to the weekend's powder festivities. A massive natural avalanche covered the road to the mountain on Sunday, leaving a reported 15 feet of avalanche debris. Best guesses in town put the overnight snowfall at 2-1/2 more feet of fresh snow at the base of Silverton. The storm also closed Red Mountain, Molas, and Cole Bank Passes effectively isolating the town of Silverton from access to the outside world. Stranded shred-heads were forced to survive on the 200 feet of vertical at Kendal Mountain in town. Silverton expects to be open for business on Thursday, and you can bet it will be all-time conditions!

Voting Starts Today on nossaTV for Action Sports Films

January 4, 2007 - It's a new year and a new twist on the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival. The voting for the Short Film Festival kicks off today on nossaTV, as five carefully selected filmmakers and their short films will compete for the ultimate big break, a fully paid trip to Los Angeles and a full slate of meetings with the movers and shakers of the film industry.

"X-Dance is the centerpiece of actions sports filmmaking,"

says Constantine Papanicolaou, winner of the 2006 X-Dance Short Film Festival, who won meetings with action sports industry players and a tour of Studio 411. His meetings resulted in financial backing to film Show and Prove featuring Tanner Hall and CR Johnson.

Voting for the best video will take place from now until January 22nd. Fans can learn more about the X-Dance Short Film Festival on the festival page. In order to vote, viewers must first login or create an account on nossaTV. Then head over to the X-Dance 2008 channel and "rate" each film from one (lowest) to five stars (highest) in overall impression. First Wave of X Games Athletes Announced

Los Angeles, CA - ESPN Winter X Games has announced the first wave of athletes who have been invited to compete at Winter X Games 12, to be held for its seventh year at Buttermilk Mountain at Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado January 24-27, 2008. The event will air live on television in the U.S. on the ESPN and ABC networks. The 12th annual winter action sports competition will feature more than 250 athletes from across the globe competing for medals and prize money in the following sports: Skiing, Snowboard and Snowmobile. The event includes day and evening competitions and is free to the public.

December 20, 2007 - It's that time of year again ... time for The Beating Film Festival at Silverton! The online viewer's choice competition starts today on nossaTV, the action sports video on demand site.

Voting for the best video will take place from now until January 1st. Fans can learn more about The Beating on the festival page. In order to vote, viewers must first login or create an account on nossaTV. Then head over to The Beating 2008 channel and rank each film from one (lowest) to five stars (highest) in overall impression. Fans are encouraged to download the nossaTV media player and watch the videos full screen. The DVD quality playback will help users decide their favorite films. Limited to five short films, it won't take you long to rate the videos, and you'll be helping a hard-working filmmaker out this holiday season.

The winner will be announced at the film festival Friday, January 4th, at Miner's Union Theater. With record-breaking early season snowfall, copious amounts of swag to win at the show, and unlimited stoke from standing-room only crowd, you should make every effort to get to Silverton for The Beating!

"The viewer's choice award is a great way for aspiring filmmakers to win some cash," says Jen Brill of Silverton. Last year's winner also pocketed $500 from nossaTV, while the overall festival winner won a tour of Studio 411.

This is the third film festival powered by nossaTV. The "new-ish" video on demand site hosted the voting for the first Beating in December of 2006, and hosted the voting for the Steamboat Mountain Film Festival earlier this fall.

About The Beating

Now it it's second year, The Beating is a new amateur ski and snowboard film festival showcasing undiscovered talent. Hosted in Silverton, Colorado by the Silverton Mountain Ski Area, The Beating is designed to be the "core" version of "The Meeting" (held in Aspen) where the top 'pimpin' big budget ski films of the year premiere. The event will also help raise money for Silverton Mountain's High School scholarship ski program. This year's sponsors include Final Draft editing software, Studio 411, Freeskier, Snowboard Mag, and K2, who is contributing a pair of Pontoons. What better to surf the deep pow at Silverton?

X-Dance Accepted Films

The world's best skiing videos, snowboarding videos, surfing videos, and skateboarding videos, as well as some windsurfing, climbing, and even a tubing video from the looks of it, will be duking it out for bragging rights in Utah this January.

For one insane week each winter, the world's top action sport filmmakers and athletes, along with cutting-edge bands and DJs and key figures from the entertainment industry, gather in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, to celebrate action sports culture at the annual X-DANCE Action Sports Film Festival. This has been the most incredible year for film entries in the past eight years of X-Dance. The level of filmmaking has reached new heights. Hundreds of films have been submitted from all over the world. Almost half of the films submitted were from outside the U.SA. X-Dance is truly the premier international event for Action Sports Filmmaking.

The difficult part of this process is determining which films will make the festival. The competition was extremely high this year. If your project did not make the final list, that does not mean that your project was not a good film. We judge all films equally on the basis of filmmaking merit and not sport genre, sponsors or budget. The five categories we judge are Cinematography, Editing, Story, Music, and Action. Each of the five merits are given equal value. The films that ultimately make it into the festival score well in most, if not all, of the filmmaking categories, making them a good blend of story and action. Films that were all action with no story or interaction with the athletes plot-wise fared the same as films that were all talk and no action.

Everyone that submitted a film can (and should) be part of the festival. The X-Dance Film Festival was created as a forum for everyone in the Action Sports Filmmaking Industry. We will be conducting the X-Dance Filmmakers Institute with seminars, workshops, and panels. The subjects will deal with real issues facing the Action Sports filmmakers, like emerging Internet demands in regard to content providing, music licensing, digital and hard copy distribution, and legal issues that arise from everything mentioned above. We will have the top people in the industry from each category there to raise the level of awareness and help you.
Our final awards ceremony is notorious for being the best party during the Sundance Film Festival. We will give all filmmakers that submitted films tickets to all of our events.

As filmmakers, you should all immerse yourself in the Sundance Film Festival and its activities as well. We will post a listing of Sundance Film Festival activities so that you can participate. Use the Sundance Festival to inspire your career.

This year we have expanded the festival to Salt Lake City. We have grown to the point where we needed bigger and better venues. Salt Lake City will also put us more in touch with our core crowd and make it easier for everyone to participate. The Sundance Film Festival is moving a lot of its energy to SLC for the same reasons we are. The O.R. (Outdoor Retailer) convention is also in town at the same time. Our new venue is right in the middle of both events, by no accident. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Ski and now snowboard resort, "Ski Taos" has decided to drop the long-standing ban on snowboarding.

We could have rightfully broken the story here at nossaTV, but it was more fun to sit back and see what other people said. I received the word directly from Hano Blake, Ernie Blake's grandson. In an e-mail that Thursday he states:

Dear Friend ,

After much contemplation Taos Ski Valley has decided to open our slopes to snowboarding beginning March 19, 2008. It is in the adventurous spirit of Ernie and Rhoda Blake we welcome the challenges and anticipate the opportunities that this decision implies. While there are many reasons why we have chosen this season to make such a significant change to our company’s policy the foremost factor is we feel simply that it is time.

For several seasons the debate has been more directed as to “when” rather than “if” snowboarding would be permitted at Taos Ski Valley. It has been the opinion of the Blake Family and TSV’s management that the timing was critical. Let us emphasize that this decision is the result of careful planning and consideration. We recognize many challenges that will result from this decision but feel ultimately it will benefit Taos Ski Valley, Inc., its employees and the community at large.

It is the goal of the Blake family and current management to continue the legacy of Taos Ski Valley. Equally to take care of you, our devoted staff and loyal friends, who for so long have helped us take care of our Mountain and the Taos Ski Valley legacy. I tested skis with Hano up at Whistler a few years back for Ski Press magazine. So a bit of irony there. But if my memory serves me correctly, the whole "Ernie Blake's dying wish" that snowboarding never be allowed at Taos was all a myth.

It had also occurred to me over the years, living in Utah especially, that after Aspen allowing snowboarding, Taos had the most to gain of the four remaining resorts. The Utah resorts, Alta and Deer Valley have next door neighbors that allow snowboarding. I actually taught many a snowboarding lesson at Park City Mountain Resort, in a Deer Valley uniform! And I was living in Utah when Alta and Snowbird joined up via Mineral Basin.

So that leaves Mad River Glen. I guess I'll just ask "Who wants to snowboard moguls?"

So way to go Taos. I understand the skier numbers are down for whatever reason. The last time I was there, 1996 I think, I almost didn't leave. A fresh infusion of sideways shredders will help get them back the recognition they deserve.

Absinthe "Optimistic?" Review

Having seen the full snowboarding video at The Meeting in Aspen, I can attest to this review. We have the trailer on nossaTV if you want to get an idea. I've been a huge fan of Absinthe since I got "futureproof" a couple years back.

I’m claiming right now because I’ve seen almost every snowboard video this season; “Optimistic?” kills it on every level of my review scale. Now I don’t want to hype it all up and disappoint you; like what usually happens when your friend tells you a movie is good then you see it and think it sucks; but honestly “Optimistic?” is a premium snowboard flick sure to be a classic loaded with stellar shots, simplistic scenery, and no doubt several heavy hitters fronting the scene. I gather the flick is titled “Optimistic?” because everyone was trying to remain optimistic last winter with the warm temps and lack of snow but somehow this film resembles a flourishing winter with the term lack no where in sight. Watch this video and it will make you want to do one of two things: grab your gear, run out the door, and find the first perceivable terrain to shred down…or sip a nice hot cocoa, glue your eyes to the set, press repeat, and come to the conclusion that you might as well just quit trying to snowboard at all.

November 21st - X-Dance, the leading action sports film festival, and nossaTV, the leader in free DVD-quality downloadable action sports video, announce the X-Dance Short Film Festival on nossatv.com. Meathead Films at Boston Ski Show

After a day of skiing with New England Telemark at Sunday River, I hopped in the nossaTV Suby and raced down to the Boston Ski Show to meet up with nossaTV filmmaker Meathead Films.

MHF has a Subaru Outback Wagon of their own, and it was on display at the show, tastefully adorned with their inflatable logo. Just have to wonder how that holds up at highway speeds, in Nor'easters, and at the drive-thru!

Meathead is on the road promoting their latest film Wanderland. You can catch the trailer on nossaTV, and buy it on their website. They also have a nice line of clothing called Ski The East.

KGB Productions in Maine

nossaTV sponsored filmmaker KGB Productions was showing their ski movie Sublimation Experiment on Thursday up in Maine. The Colby College Outing Club had a special screening of the backcountry ski video and showed it to about 40 excited fans.

"Those that were there were totally stoked, hooting and hollering during great scenes. The movie rocked, and all were grateful for the night," reported one nossaTV fan. "Was a monsoon though, my Jeep was on streets with water up to the bumper!!"

When it rains it pours. But when it's cold enough it also snows! Maine resorts picked up between 2" and 8" of the natural stuff, as did many Vermont and New Hampshire ski areas.

TGR Premiere in NYC

nossaTV sponsored the New York City premiere of TGR's Lost and Found on Thursday night. After the Voleurz show in Montreal the night before, it was time for another ski and snowboard movie.

It was a stretch getting there in time, so I blazed straight down I-87 through more torrential rain (almost snow just south of Plattsburgh). At least until the Lincoln Tunnel. Then it was the most excruciating sixty minutes of driving ever! But I got to the show just before doors and was able to park the nossaTV Suby right out front. Fortunately the guy from Steamboat got there at the same time and we were able to split the last table.

Thanks to Dave at TGR for letting us demo our nossaTV media player at this huge event. We also ran a special TGR commercial on nossaTV publicizing this ski and snowboard video premiere. Exactly what our media player is designed for: connecting with fans through targeted advertising.

Marc-Andre Belliveau and Bang Camaro warmed up the crowd. Then of course the latest ski and snowboard video from TGR took center stage and took care of getting everyone stoked for the season.

Voleurz in Montreal

Voleurz had the "east coast premiere" of their More For The Astronauts film in Montreal Wednesday night. It's a long stretch of road from Hartford, CT, to Montreal, QC. But to see our first Canadian sponsored filmmaker for the first time it was well worth the drive.

A quick stop in my hometown of Glens Falls in upstate NY helped break things up. Having heard the horror stories about crossing the border these days, I opted to leave my box of swag and brand new 23" external display with Dad. Managed to sneak our banner across, though.

Navigating a foreign city, in a foreign language, in the dark, and in the rain made things challenging after six hours on the road. But MapQuest delivered me to the correct street, and the funky blue Christmas lights of "Foufounes Electronique" practically screamed "this is the place you're looking for."

If you haven't heard of Voleurz, its because they're new! nossaTV sponsored their first feature length video, More For The Astronauts. These guys are killing it right now, and its only a matter of time before they catch on south of the border. Led by Darren as principle filmmaker, Bruce as the website/internet guy (check their Facebook profile), and Harvey running the burgeoning clothing line, these guys have all the right stuff.

The movie was BY FAR the most entertaining video I've seen this season (and that includes everything that was at The Meeting in Aspen). Do they have heli-shots from AK, or even the terrain park? No. But not to sound cliche, they have THE MOST progressive riding I've seen this year. Both skiing and snowboarding. Add to that a nice skateboarding segment. And lifestyle segments so entertaining you'd think you were watching reality TV. All I could think while watching Astronauts was "fresh." Voleurz is the future of skiing and snowboarding.

East Coast Operations Have Begun!

It's been a long time coming, but we wanted to let everyone know that nossaTV now has a presence on the East Coast. Yours truly recently moved from Park City back east to the lovely, rolling hills of Connecticut and the icy slopes of New England.

More importantly, nossaTV will expand its content, user, and advertising reach. I'll be reporting on all things skiing & snowboarding related, marketing our video on demand site to action sports fans, and signing up advertisers in the coming months. We're actually skiing already out here, which is more than I can say for my old stomping grounds of Utah!

This week we're (I'm) up in Montreal for the Voleurz screening, down I-87 to NYC for the TGR show, taking in the KGB show in Maine (and skiing at Sunday River), then down to the Boston Ski Show to catch up with Meathead Films.

November 13, 2007 – nossaTV is proud to announce its first live event with Teton Gravity Research. The video on demand site will be sponsoring one of the biggest screenings in TGR history this Thursday in New York City.

TGR will premiere their latest ski and snowboard movie, Lost & Found, with live musical performances by Bang Camaro and Marc Andre Belliveau Band. Attendees will witness Marc Andre’s skiing comeback and learn his story about overcoming a devastating accident one year ago, which left him paralyzed form the waist down. Amazing, fans will see him continuing as an action sports athlete as he skis in the newest Teton Gravity Research film.

The Marc Andre Belliveau Story:

In the spring of 2006, Belliveau was tragically paralyzed in a ski accident. After 8 years as a pro film skier and less than 6 months after injury, unable to stay off the snow, he came back on a sit ski. His inspirational return is captured on 16mm film in TGR’s newest release Lost and Found.

Marc Andre is an integral member of the TGR crew. He has had a staring role in the last six TGR movie releases including featured segments in the last three films, The Tangerine Dream, Anomaly, and this year in his return to the snow in Lost and Found. This year’s film showcases his heroic return in a sit ski, which enables him to again hit big mountain lines, launch big airs and float through deep powder.

October 9th (NossaTV) - Upstart Canadian filmmakers Voleurz ("voh-lers") are on the road with their new feature length video More For The Astronauts. Officially dubbed The Deep Space Tour, presenting sponsor Coors Light is providing the spirits, while Darren Raynor and crew provide the stoke.

The film is an entertaining combination of ski and snowboard, urban and backcountry booter. Mixing fresh music, comedic skits, and first class footage, this is one flick that is sure to stand out this winter. The video stars such athletes as Joe Schuster, TJ Schiller, Josh Bibby, Shayne Zwickel, Braden Dean, Graeme Samodien, Cam Schuster, Jan Schuster, and Darren Rayner. It's set in Whistler, inbounds and out, and Silverstar Resort.

Voleurz threw a huge premiere in the Molson/Coors Brewery in Vancouver and now they're rollin' across the Northern side of the border through such towns as Kelowna (9 Oct), Penticton (13 Oct), and Vernon (18 & 19 Oct). Rounding out the month of October, the Deep Space Tour lands in Calgary (23 Oct), Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg (30 Oct) and Toronto. The Meeting - It's a Wrap

The Monday after The Meeting in Aspen - Trying to remember back as far as last Thursday night isn't necessarily easy. But here I go...

The NEPSA / Meeting in Aspen weekend kicked off with an absolutely packed house for the 5th Annual NEPSA Awards. The show was comprised of "ten short films created by local athletes." When the results were announced, we realized NossaTV filmmakers had done very well. Two of the top four already had videos on NossaTV. Not a bad start to the weekend. We also meet with several new filmmakers whose work impressed us. But trying to get a few words in with Matt Hobbs while he and his athletes divied up the $3500 grand prize ($100 dollar bills) wasn't easy!

After the NEPSA Awards, it was straight over to the Belly Up for the Opening Party and D&E Ski & Snowboard Fashion Show. Half expecting a bunch of ski shop employees just walking around in this season's outerwear, it was quite the opposite. The models were clearly professional, the well-rehearsed "catwalk" a dead give-away, not to mention the small crew of their friends from New York (or LA) who arrived just before the show. And there must have been a quota for showing tight white t-shirts and booty shorts for each manufacturer. Having left the camera in the car, I quickly realized the opportunity lost. Fortunately there were about 25 professional cameras flashing away, so we hope to find and add some photos to this post.

We were really happy to meet some of our other filmmakers and get some good feedback on the site. Mike Martin from WZ-TV / Steamboat Mountain Film Festival was more than happy to tell us what was on his mind. But seriously, listening to our filmmakers and users is time well spent.

The Meeting officially began on Friday with the first of three "sessions" NossaTV got to participate in. It was a fairly routine presentation on Music Licensing in Action Sports featuring Richard Jankovich from Rumblefish, followed by a Q&A. Richard basically concentrated on the basics and the law in "laymen's terms." But he added his opinion on some very recent events in the world of music licensing and the "harsh reality" of being sued for not having the proper licenses.

It was cool to meet up with some key ski/snowboard media at the reception (re: free alcohol) immediately following the licensing session. This ended up being some of the most rewarding one-on-one conversations of the entire weekend, as the pace picked up considerably afterwards and worthwhile meetings were pretty much outta the question.

Friday night was basically six straight ski and snowboard videos. Four showed at Wheeler Opera House, and two at the Belly Up. Let the blur begin...

Saturday The Meeting managed to squeeze two industry sessions, go-cart races, and six more ski & snowboard films into the day. The sessions included a very insightful look into Sponsorship by Issa Sawabini from Fuse Marketing, and a lively Competition Forum featuring Calum Clark (USSA Grand Prix), Zach Christ (The Ski Tour / Jeep King of the Mountain), and Chris Stiepock (ESPN X Games). The scheduling challenges facing professional athletes are becoming a real issue, with filmmakers competing for time with the growing slate of high-paying events. How do you maintain the balance between giving casual fans what they want (via network TV ratings) and what core fans want (progression of the sport via films)?

The Q&A portion of the Competition Forum actually wound up with a fairly spirited back-and-forth between Tanner Hall (backed by other attendees) and Mr. Clark. More statement than question, athletes wanted it noted the failure to get skiing halfpipe in the 2010 Winter Games was unacceptable. Others went on to argue that including ski cross and not ski pipe was indicative of the division in alpine skiing. For those keeping score: snowboard halfpipe (in the Olympics), snowboard cross (Olympics), ski cross (2010), ski halfpipe (still on the outside looking in). Say what you want about Tanner, he's smarter and cares more about the sport than most people give him credit for. And USSA is on report for not representing freeskiing.

Six more videos and we were done. It should be noted that temps dropped steadily over the weekend, winding up with some snow flurries Saturday night. As we left the Roaring Fork Valley on Sunday morning, the mountains were frosted and we could see our breath. Watch those movies, but get ready for the real thing.

SKIERS PLAZA, WHISTLER, BC, SEPTEMBER 14, 2007 - The world premiere of Matchstick Productions' mind-blowing new film “Seven Sunny Days” was the largest Matchstick event to date. An estimated 3,000 fans showed up to the free outdoor showing held in the legendary skiers plaza in the Whistler Village.

Matchstick's athletes and stars of the film showed up to sign posters and meet and greet the mob of fans. Athletes included Sarah Burke, Mark Abma, Shane McConkey, Hugo Harrisson, TJ Schiller, Mike Douglas, Ingrid Backstrom, Chris Rubens, Eric Hjorleifson, CR Johnson, James Heim, and Rory Bushfield. The film's directors and cinematographers were also on site to share the enthusiasm.

Film highlights included standout performances by Mark Abma and Eric Hjorleifson, who both deliver progressive big mountain and freestyle segments. TJ Schiller has an incredible park segment, with some of the most interesting POV footage ever captured. Sammy Carlson stuns in the park and displays his prowess sliding urban rails, while Jon Olsson delivers an amazing all-around segment featuring his daredevil double-flips. Mike Douglas has a stand out helmet cam segment - illustrating his perspective of skiing big lines - and Shane McConkey fulfills his dream of impersonating 007.

Some of the most powerful footage in the film comes from Norway in the proximity flying segment. It features Norwegian and French B.A.S.E. jumpers Espen Fadnes and Jean Loic Albert as well as two MSP favorites, JT Holmes and Shane McConkey. September 12, 2007 – Answering the call for DVD quality on demand action sports trailers, NossaTV has officially rolled out its DOUBLE WIDE Trailer Park. For the first time, skiing and snowboarding trailers from independent filmmakers big and small are together under one roof, and available for full screen viewing.

At launch, the Trailer Park has twelve trailers for the 2007-08 season with over 45 minutes of content, including trailers from top filmmakers Rage Films, TGR, Standard Films, Poor Boyz Productions, Eric Iber g, Rome Snowboards / Kids on Shread Productions, and White Out Films. Skiing and Snowboarding Exhibition and Festival Returns to Downtown San Francisco

San Francisco, CA - ICER AIR, an outdoor skiing exhibition that first gained notoriety in 2005 by laying down 16,000 cubic feet of snow on one of the city's steepest streets and hosting a big air ski and snowboard competition, will return this November to AT&T Park as the first and only stadium skiing event in the United States.

Now in its third year, Esurance ICER AIR will feature a two-day multi-sport event on November 2-3, 2007 at the home to the San Francisco Giants.

Aspen/Snowmass will once again host The Meeting, October 4-7–a weekend celebration of ski and snowboard films. Now in its third year, this original event has grown into the must-attend season kick-off for the snowsports industry—creating a scene for fans, athletes and industry players to share in the anticipation of the upcoming season.

"The Meeting is a great way to kick off the winter season. It is one of those special events that only comes along a couple times of year where athletes, filmmakers and industry magnates all get together in one place to share ideas and good times," said Dirk Collins, Teton Gravity Research. "And there is no better place to host an industry film festival than Aspen."

The six ski movies to be screened are Teton Gravity Research's Lost and Found, Poor Boyz Productions' Yeah Dude, Level 1's Realtime, Tanner Hall's Believe, Eric Iberg's IDEA and Rage Films' Enjoy. Steamboat Mountain Film Festival

NossaTV is proud to sponsor the 5th Annual Steamboat Mountain Film Festival (SMFF). NossaTV will be the sole method of online viewing and voting for the "Reel People" contest, the online viewer's choice portion of the festival.

And this just in, festival organizer Mike Martin has announced a $500 first place prize and pair of Liberty Skis to the Reel People winner.

By rating the entries in the new SMFF Channel, NossaTV users will determine the winners of the “Reel People” portion of the festival. Beginning September 17th, fans can download 3-5 minute clips from NossaTV, watch them, and then rate them from one to five stars. Local show from Steamboat Springs has own channel with video on demand site

August 14, 2007 – Michael Martin Productions and NossaTV are proud to announce the launch of the WZ-TV Channel on NossaTV.

WZ-TV broadcasts the best independent films from Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley. Showcasing up and coming local talent, mixed with professionals, this show documents all types of film genres. The first episode takes a look at Michael Martin's “About a Skier.” Episode 2 covers Bernd Zangerl's “Memento - A Boulder Life Line.”

“My inspiration for WZ-TV came from Greg Stump's World of Extremes,” says Martin. Stump’s TV series from the early 90's grew out of the fictitious Ski TV in his film “Dr. Strangeglove.”

This half-hour long show will air Monday and Wednesday nights at 7PM on Steamboat's RSN Channel 18. The show will feature local filmmakers and their works with interviews to highlight their story. WZ-TV will ramp up this fall for additional episodes covering life in the Boat.

WZ-TV is the first syndicated show on NossaTV. Episodes 1 and 2 are already on the site. New episodes will air shortly after their TV debut in Steamboat. WZ-TV enjoys placement on the top-level navigation menu alongside the original channels of Snowboarding, Skiing, Skateboarding, and Surfing.

Thrillhead Creations was one of the first filmmakers on NossaTV, as an entry in The Beating Film Festival that NossaTV sponsored in December of 2006. We first heard about them when their Schralptown tour rolled through Utah last fall. Now, Thrillhead is our first sponsored filmmaker. Mike S. interviewed Ellis Smith, co-founder of Thrillhead, about the new movie, the nationwide tour, and something called an "adventure farm."

NossaTV: Where are you guys from and what got you into filmmaking?

Ellis: As a film company, we’re based out of Ft Collins. I grew up in Mobile, Alabama, and my partner Jessie is from Spencer, Mass.

NTV: How did you guys end in Colorado?

I did an Outward Bound when I was 21 years old and got exposed to mountaineering in general and wanted to pursue a career in climbing. I was supposed to go to school at Western State. But I moved to Ft. Collins to get residency, decided I wanted to stay there and go to CSU instead.

Both Jessie and I were college athletes: I played soccer and he played baseball. He came out to take a 90-day NOLS semester. He decided to move west and finish school out here. Parallel to me in a sense, we met in the same major as CSU, Natural Resources, Recreation, and Tourism. Basically we were showing up late to class and realized we were both skiing the same slopes before coming to class.

NTV: Where did the name ‘Thrillhead Creations’ come from?

My brother has been calling me a ‘thrillhead’ for years. I was just this good old boy from Alabama. That kinda stuck with me for a while. I always wanted to create a company around thrillhead, something I’d call a “sustainable adventure farm.”

NTV: How did Thrillhead get started?

So Jesse and I met in school and did a lot of backcountry touring around northern Colorado and I would always carry my camcorder with us and shoot everybody. We always talked about making a film that was different from what we had been seeing in the industry. So this idea was born to separate ourselves from the rest of the pack by focusing on the backcountry, avalanche awareness, and environmental stewardship. So we started to cut the footage we were compiling and people really enjoyed what they saw and really encouraged us to pursue it further. So with a trailer in the works we began writing proposals, creating our logo, and we produced our first movie 16 months later and the rest is history.

NTV: Can you elaborate on the adventure farm?

I have this idea of living on a farm that is 100% sustainable. We grow all of our own veggies year round, hunt and fish for meat, and live in a home that is net zero or requires little or no outside power source. We would run this adventure based outfitter type bed and breakfast/ranch where we take guests out to do different activities. While they are hiking, fishing, climbing, or whatever the activity, they will learn about the flora and fauna, the ecology and geology of the surrounding area, helping them gain a stronger appreciation for their surroundings. We will also educate our guest about how we live self sustained off of our farm such as growing our veggies year round (permaculture) to harvesting eggs from the chickens, to how to live in a net zero home. We want our guest to leave with a great understanding that they too can live a similar lifestyle just by learning how to do it.

NTV: What are your thoughts on “environmental stewardship?”

Honestly, I grew up hunting and fishing my whole life. I grew up on the Gulf Coast and my dad always had me outside. The outdoors had a big impression on me and I have always had a strong connection to it. Coming to CSU really helped mold my views of the environment. That’s where it developed even more. I was exposed to all these ideas. It really helped instill environmental stewardship in me.

We live in a community that is very progressive as far as environmental activism goes. The values we gained at CSU really help mold the way we run a business and the companies we choose to work with as sponsors. As our mission, we strive to work with like minded businesses that view our environment the same way we do. So, I have had this issue with trying to label or identify with the kind of green work that we do and believe in. Tree hugger and granola head just don’t fit well for today’s politically correct, so I have begun to coin the term “Green Collar” businesses or eco-conscience businesses. In this wave of greening going on all around us, it is only appropriate to be able identify us in a positive sense.

NTV: I can’t remember if I told you about The Beating film festival, or that’s how we found about you.

That’s how you found out about us. We heard about it going on in Silverton and you contacted me afterwards. We weren’t there but you remembered seeing a flyer in the Salt Lake REI or something, were bummed you had missed our Utah shows.

NTV: So what’s your opinion on film festivals? Are they gaining in popularity?

Yes, I think so tremendously. Ever since I moved to Colorado I’ve tried to go to every film festival from Denver to Silverton. They are a great tool for artists who are tying to get their work out there. I think we entered 15 or 16 film festivals last season.

(Film festivals play) a huge role because we do spend a lot of time and effort promoting the tour we do on our own. Festivals make it easier for us. So for us it’s great.

NTV: What kind of cameras do you use for filming?

We shoot 2 Canon GL2’s. We shoot one Sony VX2100. We shoot two Panasonic PVGS. Those are all 3 CCD. We shoot about three different helmet cams. I personally own a Viosport helmet cam.

NTV: What is your editing suite?

Avid Express Pro, PC version. Very finicky, a million options, you have to make sure everything is set right.

NTV: Where do you get your information from?

For festival updates Withoutabox.com is a great source, that’s how we found all the film festivals to enter.

NTV: What has been the toughest part of making and selling ski movies?

The toughest part is getting the funding to make one. Then, being a nobody trying to sell ski and snowboard movies to people who have no idea who you are. It’s pretty difficult to break into a new market.

NTV: What’s been the best part?

Man! Getting to call this a job (laughs). Getting to splitboard for a living! I love being in the mountains. Getting to share these experiences. To me that’s the best part. Our movies are realistic, and anybody in our audience can relate to (what we do). It isn’t something that only stunt men can do.

NTV: What do you think about downloadable video?

It is the wave of the future. I don’t just make ski movies, I do real estate videos, as well. It makes it easier to upload and share your work.

NTV: How is NossaTV helping you?

It’s helping me be exposed to new markets I wouldn’t try to tackle. You have such a wide array to what we’re doing. We’re trying to find any avenue to reach new markets.

NTV: Tell us about Return to Schralptown.

It’s the same idea as (the original) Schralptown. Except now we’ve got better athletes, locations, imagery. The skiing and snowboarding, unique twists as far as the environmental aspects that are going into it . . . helps get this message across.

NTV: Any other current projects?

We’ve got a kayaking project going on. It’s been a lot of fun changing it up from skiing to kayaking; it’s been a fun crossover. Also the “To Cross the Moon” segment of the new movie. 2XTM (the kiteboarding guys) transformed the tour for us, (gave us the idea to) offset the carbon footprint (and put) a big sign up showing what our carbon footprint is. Giving money to trees, water, people. Really inspiring as far as being eco-adventurists. Really inspired us to “green’ our tour as much as we can.

NTV: Tell us about the tour.

So yeah, basically, our tour is going to very unique. We’re going to drive a bio diesel car to every one of our shows, based out of Fort Collins. (At) each one of our events we’ve invited community members that have some sort of environment connection. It will be like a 4th grade science fair, learn what these people are doing to Keep Winter White. We’re calling it the KW2 Tour. Educate people about what’s going on in their community and get them involved. Do something completely new, outside the box!

We are traveling across the country this year for our 40 show Keep Winter White “Return to Schralptown” movie tour. We will travel to all of our shows in a veggie run diesel with fuel provided by our sponsor Blue Sun Biodiesel. Each show will educate our viewers about the impact caused from making this movie and traveling across the country for our tour and how we will ask for support to offset our carbon footprint thru donations. We want to change the way snowsports movies are seen while influencing our audience to question themselves about the impacts they are causing in their lives.

Description: Making a ski movie is a constant battle of conditions, terrain and travel. Our season began by driving all over the country chasing down handrails, as it continued, "global warming" and inconsistent snowfall patterns became our biggest obstacle. This made us quickly learn that we had to be on-call, ready to be anyplace at any time. From greasing handrails in New York to perfect conditions in Alaska, our crew was there at a moments notice. Often it meant waking up at 6 am and digging for hours, building a jump that wouldn't be hit until the following day. To differentiate:

Flash Preview Player - the player you see on our website; can get to with ANY operating system and ANY browser; the "YouTube" equivalent for action sports; flash based; streaming; roughly 400 x 300 (but you can resize down, and even up a fair amount); CAN BE EMBEDDED on your own site or blog
nossaTV Media Player - the player you have to download and install; currently only a Windows version; think iTunes on steriods; allows registered users to then download and playback the full videos; full screen, DVD-quality viewing; will earn content providers money once we start accepting demographic-based advertising

You'll notice that most of our previews on the site are only :30 long. There are a couple reasons for that:

Streaming is expense - More expensive than downloading, like a 5:1 ratio.
We want user accounts - If you played the whole video in the preview, why would fans download our player and create an account? Our advertising solution only works with the nossaTV Media Player. Without the basic demographics (age, gender, zip code) users, advertisers can't pick their audience.

However, we are now streaming up to 5:00 previews for Sponsored Filmmakers, Affiliate Filmmakers, and other Video Partners. How do you become an Affiliate? Simply agree to use our embedded preview player on your site in leui of Quicktime or (horrors!) YouTube. That's the same resizable, streaming, high quality, flash player you see on the site and here in this blog post.

With the nossaTV Flash Preview Player on your own website, visitors will be able to preview videos on your site and then go right to nossaTV.com to download all of your full-length vids. 1. What got you into filming?
My mom bought a digital-8 camcorder and i kinda made
owner of it. Andy (Irons) asked if I would film him
surfing. I-movie really hooked me on the editing end.
I couldnt believe how simple it was. I had a hard time
going to sleep, i wanted to edit all the time. Shoot
all day and edit all night.

2. how sweet is it to live in Kauai?
I dont think i could have written a better place to
grow up. I dont remember choosing were to be born so
the gratitude to my mom for giving up her dreams to
raise her children on the beach on Kauai is huge. As
an adult deciding to stay on Kauai has worked out very
well.

3. What does your day consist of?
MySpace... No, I wake early (6am) and review what ever
film project kept me up late the night before, get a
fresh look at it and continue to work it out. I break
from 7:15 until 8 to have breakfast with my son and
get him off to school and get my days drinkin water
ration. Then surf till about 11 or 12. If the boys are
in town I will adjust to film the morning surf. I
spend alot of afternoons in meetings trying to improve
life. I usualy paint pictures after waching the sunset
and bounce between canvas and final-cut until i pass
out... thats when im not pimpin.

4. do you ever get vibed out on your home turf?
No, I usually have to keep myself in check, make sure
im not vibing anybody.

5. How often does Bruce land on people while your filming?
The one time Bruce landed on Abe in the water
infront of me it freaked me out. I was filming and
couldnt believe what i saw. I think it freaked Bruce
out even more. Everyone came up after the wave passed
wondering how much blood and brains would be floating
in the water.

6. You are a proud parent, how does that influence your life?
I grew up partying very.... VERY hard. Lots and lots
of drugs and alcohol. On February 6th 1996 the girl i
had just broken up with called me after moving back to
Kansas. She said she was pregnant. I have not had a
drink or drug since that day. My son is 10 and he is a
true rockstar. I live an amazing life because I was
blessed with Cole in it.

7. You are politically involved in helping Kauai heel some underlying wounds, what does this consist of?
I am very politically involved locally. I feel we all
have to be... or dont bitch about ANYTHING. If we do
all we can to improve issues such as affordable
housing, drug addiction, unrealistic development,
infrastructure issues, things get better. It makes
little sense to complain with out experience. If we
eat only things that come from within 50 miles of our
homes, life WILL improve (50 mile diet)

8. Are you living your dreams?
I think im living most peoples dreams..

9. Who is the coolest person you ever met?
Probably Hanah, no bullshit.

10. What books are you reading.
I just returned from the most amazing trip to the
Mentawais in Indonesia and I brought along Barack
Obamas book. I read some of it but found myself
getting barreled to much to get into it, i will
continue to try.

11. Why did you get involved with NossaTV?
I think its the right thing to do. Not necessarily
NossaTV but anything you can do to lesson the
footprint we leave on the planet. NossaTV eliminates
plastic dvd covers, fuel, so much less has to be
manufactured to get the project out.

12. Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
Cole, no question.

13. What do you do to get away from it all?
I think i am away from it all.

14. Are you superstitious?
I am very spiritual, i visualize, pray, feel... all
could be seen as superstitious. I dont have any
goodluck charms.

OK the basic details….where are you from and what got you into snowboarding?

I’m from New York originally – about 45 minutes north of New York City. I skateboarded a bunch as a kid and the first time I saw someone snowboarding, I knew it was something I wanted to try. That was back in ’89 (yeah, I’m old) and I’ve been snowboarding ever since.

How did you end up in Tahoe?

I really got in to snowboarding more and more in high school and college – and my junior year of college I went to Jackson Hole for spring break. That was it for me. Right then I knew that after college I had to get off the east coast and head west to bigger mountains. I’d been instructing for a local hill in college and figured it’d be a good way to get out west – being and instructor – that way I’d have a job lined up before leaving New York which was pretty important because my parents were supportive of me going, but they weren’t going to support me financially. I got offered teaching jobs at Jackson Hole, Snowbird, Mt. Baker and Heavenly. I’m sure I would’ve had a blast at any of those resorts, but I picked Heavenly for 2 reasons – employee housing – and it’s proximity to the coast – because at the time, I’d never even been all the way out to the Pacific. I’m so stoked on how it’s worked out. I absolutely love Tahoe – and living here year round is just amazing.

Your first film was Perception, then Creative Differences, then Frozen Assets, and now Hello my name is…is filming getting easier or more difficult as you become a veteran? ie: riders, travel budgets, sponsors?

That’s an interesting question…A lot of things are easier – we have a better handle on our camera equipment, snowmobiles, locations we want to shoot, etc. but at the same time it can be hard keeping things fresh. It’s easy to go back to a jump spot that you’ve shot before and know will be good – but we try to keep that to a minimum and look for new spots to shoot. The riders we work with are amazing – not only are they solid riders and have great eyes for creative shoots, but most of them aren’t getting paid anything to snowboard – they’re doing this just because they love to get out there and ride and it’s pretty cool to see people who are motivated purely from the joy of riding with their friends. And regarding sponsors, well, that’s always a bit of a pain in the ass. It’s not what we want to spend our time focused on – sponsor solicitation that is – we’d rather just be out there riding, shooting and producing. But that said, we’ve been fortunate to come across some really sincere people in the “industry”, people that are down to support us and that stokes us out and makes us want to do all we can for them. We can always use more support – a bigger budget will only allow us to do bigger and better things – we have a ton of great ideas that will hopefully come to fruition someday as we continue growing.

What kind of camera do you use for filming?

Our primary cameras are the Panasonic HVX200 – we have 3 of them. They shoot in HD and in 24p (with multiple framerate options). We’ve been really stoked on them and just the cameras alone have increased our production value dramatically. Our new project, “HELLO my name is” will be the first movie that we’ve shot with these cameras. We also use a variety of other 3-chip cameras for 2nd angles and some of the riders we work with shoot on their own and submit footage for our projects.

Do you do it all by yourself or does your dog really do all the work?

Well, we have used Otis for tow-ins, but he gets distracted easily…Really, we have a lot of people who help keep things going – and without them, there’s no way we’d be able to put out movies year after year. Here’s a short list of people that have been key to our filming, editing, promoting, etc. Karen Johnson, Dan Moses, Mike Abeliuk, Ryan Johannesen, Lane Power and Wojtek Targosz.

What has been the toughest part of making and selling Snowboard movies?

It’s been somewhat difficult selling movies with riders that don’t have a lot of name recognition. Most of the riders we work with are friends that kill it – not big name pros. So, it can be challenging to compete with movies that have the bigger name riders in them – but we’re stoked that we can work with friends and do what we can to help get exposure for riders that we know deserve it. I think this year we finally have a good mix as we have a few bigger name riders like Scotty Lago, Anti Autti, Per Loken and Jukka Erratuli – but we’re still sticking with our roots and working with local up-and-comers from a few different areas. Additionally, just having a smaller budget than the big companies definitely makes it hard to compete with them on some level – but at the same time, it’s forced us to get creative – with features we shoot, editing, everything really.

What’s been the best part of making Snowboard videos?

So many good things – mainly, that I’m not working a desk job during the winter and I get to ride every pow day. But in addition to that, I’ve met and get to work with some great people and great riders. We get the chance to make a movie every year that hopefully get people stoked to get out and snowboard – that’s a pretty cool thing.

Why is NossaTV sooooo Bad Ass? Is it the fact you can create a fan base or just cause were super super cool people?

All that and then some…Really, it’s just such a simple/smart idea. It’s one of those things that just make sense. People are going to be soooo stoked to be able to see so many top-notch action-sports videos for free. And for the producers, it’s another way to build an audience for sure, get more exposure for your riders, stoke your sponsors out, and get some revenue sharing too – it’s been a no brainer for us. As soon as we heard about it, we wanted to get involved.

Do you see the future of video going online or will we see both stay strong over the years?

I think it’s going to be like brick and mortar shops vs. online sales. Online is going to have a big impact on brick and mortar, but there will always been shops. So, I think we’ll always have DVDs or some form of hard copies that people will want to buy – but online video is only going to keep growing – especially for companies like Nossa TV that are doing it right.

Any shouts out to riders, friends, familia?

Definitely –my wife and business partner Karen, my parents, my sister, my 2 brother-in-laws, my mother-in-law, and really, everyone that’s been supportive of First Tracks on any level – and there are a ton of people from peeps that bought DVDs, came to a premiere, lent a hand with a camera, helped us out at resort, sponsors, etc.

What’s in your ipod right now?

I’m still waiting for an i-Phone – anyone from Apple out there reading this??? I’m listening to a bunch of different stuff right now – mostly indie artists that we’re considering working with on our new projects – you’ll see some of their stuff in the new movie.

Any suggestions for young aspiring filmmakers getting into the business?

Yeah, get out there and shoot – shoot all the time – then go back and watch the footage with you friends – talk about what you liked, what you didn’t like, figure out what you can do to get better shots and then do it all over again. That’s the best way to get good at shooting and end up with shots you really dig. Beyond the camerawork, be persistent – but also be realistic. You’re not going to get rich from doing this – at least not anytime soon – so that shouldn’t be your motivation for getting in to it. But, if you’re passionate about it, and can’t see yourself doing anything else, then get out there and do it – and keep at it – even if you have to work side jobs for a while or whatever…
